why didn't they show it in color ? .... maybe because they didn't want anyone to see the super sterile gray moon stuff ? in an age when everyone has cells phones which produce color pictures, it seems to me that they had to work hard to make that a black and white for some reason.
Black Mat Hits UK

Okay, let us out of our misery. Where is it? I've seen black seams like that but they weren't at the Younger Dryas boundary. Is this a chalk geology?
I am with carol on this: Where is it? Thinking about a black mat in the UK makes me think about firestorm clouds covering the North Atlantic. Of course that would apply to the Dutch and Belgian black mats, also, as well as Syria and Greenland. If true, then there should be a black mat in cores under the N Atlantic, too. Just like the one at the bottom of Lake Cuitzeo. I will go on record as predicting a black mat under the N Atlantic. Also, if the prevailing winds were from the west as they are now, then all of the black mat sites should be generally to the east of the burning. N America would seem to be the logical source of such a conflagration. Either that or there were massive fires in various locations - but still upwind of the NW Europe, Greenland, and Syria sites. It might be possible eventually to gauge by the thickness of the black mats and the prevailing winds as to where and how far away the fire or fires were.
This image does not really compare in appearance to the Usselo horizon or the southwest black mats. Steve Garcia, you are not likely to find charcoal in the ocean since you are far from the fuel source on land.
Schistophrenic - If the black mat exists in Greenland (and it does) and if it also exists above the Usselo layer in Holland and if it exists in Belgium, then those places are as far or farther from the fuel source as the North Atlantic. Another thing: The Heinrich events assert that the ocean floor samples are ice-rafted debris. That is not the only possibility. It is also possible that they are ejecta. The particle size of Bond evidence is mostly granular. Yes, this makes sense that ice-rafting is a possibility, but not the only possibility. If the YDB coincides with a Bond event - and it does - then the materials of the two should either be intermixed or they are one and the same thing. There should be carbon spherules and more in the Bond materials. If not IN them, then just above or below - in which case the two events are not coincident and are separate. Right now Bond event 8 is accepted as at the YD boundary. I contend that it is reasonable to ask if the two are the same thing. I hypothesize that if materials were being carried to Greenland and N Europe then they should also have been deposited on the N Atlantic surface and should be showing up in the sediments below. The ejecta and wildfire materials should not be able to reach Europe without also showing up in the ocean sediments. All of these are questions that need to be asked and falsified, meaning let's find out one way or another.
