Hi George - The entire field of impact studies has been no place for lightweights from its very start. You can be pretty sure that Dr. Courty, like every other professional archaeologist who has working in Syria and the area, has her own set of friends among the professional Syrian and Iraqi archaeologists. Aside from that, there is a possible historically recent major astrobleme in southern Iraq that has remained unworked on since 2003. Look up "Enlil's Pickaxe".
