Whew. The Tusk is relieved to have my first ever stage production/lecture series/brain party/mass sleepover/international fly-in/livestream/video-on-demand/plus five meals for hundreds completed. I’ve been to plenty of public gatherings, but I have never, ever organized such a thing myself. So it is with wonderful relief and many thanks to hundreds that I report Cosmic Summit 2023 was, by all accounts, a roaring success. Here some vitals statics for the first-time event.
Cosmic Summit 2023:
- Tickets went on sale for $499 in late November ‘22 and sold out in sixty days, five months before the show
- 46 states and 16 countries bought seat tickets in Asheville
- 14 million social media interactions
- 360 attendees were seated
- 200 refunds followed the setback
- 15 speakers, 20+ hours of content, 15-part Video-on-Demand
- Five meals
- 125 room block sold out, Crowne Plaza Asheville sold out
- ~80/20 out-of-state to in-state
- >1500 $49 15-part 20 hour Video-on-Demand packages sold and selling here

The attendees, just as expected, were simply wonderful people. As the host you get a pretty good idea who is coming, but it was exciting to see my most optimistic assumptions fulfilled by thoughtful, curious and courteous people from all over the world. Some of them were readers of this blog, like Mr. and Mrs. Walter Horsting, who popped up in the flesh after a decade of digital friendship. And Marc Young, of the Comet Research Group,who we flew in from Adelaide-to-Asheville.
The AV producers XL Mediaworks and AVL Solutions, in coordination with howtube.com, did an incredible job. I am a lighting freak in my home and, though I know nothing about stage lighting, they made the room fun and beautiful. The camera work and scene production was flawless for such an event, as you will see. And howtube.com’s quick work to the edit the huge recording into 15-parts left the event in great digital shape moving forward. Thank you Mike Robertson.
The speakers? My lord what can I say? These fourteen people had good reason to pull out after the collapse in attendance. Not only did they not cave to their best interests, they doubled-down and made the show better than it would have been given the original cast. I feel like I just lived an episode of Glee. Each of them is invited to return.
The lectures will not be lost to the internet. They are being sliced, diced, and scattered into dozens of clips beginning to appear on all social media @cosmicsummit. These two videos yesterday are approaching a combined 1 million global viewers.
My goal is to have tickets for Cosmic Summitn2024 for sale within a month. #CS24 will be held in my hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center and Sheraton Four Seasons. Dates coming soon.

I just want to tell you want an amazing time my wife and I had at the Cosmic Summit. The phrases “hit it out of the park” and “exceeded expectations” come to mind. It was a pleasure to meet you and everyone else. Everything about it was outstanding. Blown away for the first go round of the event.
It was an immense honor to sit before many great researchers discussing their respective topics around Earth history.
